Department of Pharmacognosy

Pharmacognosy is dealing with substances and starting materials with a wide range of biological activities obtained usually from plants, animals and microorganisms (fermentation).

Pharmacognosy in line with botanical, plant chemistry, microbiology and pharmacology. In addition to scientific or traditional treatment methods such as pharmacognosy, phytotherapy, aromatherapy, homoepathi, it is also a science that explores the folkloric materials and products used in folk medicine.

Biologically derived pharmaceutical raw materials include all raw materials such as hormones, enzymes, proteins, vitamins, antibiotics, vaccines, antitoxins, blood products and antiallergens as well as plant and animal drugs. The plant world is a tremendous repository of active chemical compounds. It is close to half of the medicines we use today. In recent years, biotechnology application areas and prominence in pharmacognosy have also gained value.
